In Part 1, we explored the concept of daily choices acting as votes in a lifelong election, showing how every decision shapes our future, tipping the scales toward growth or stagnation. If you haven’t read it yet, go check it out here.
Now, we face the ultimate question:
How do you cast votes that truly count?
Let’s dive into the practical side of ensuring that your daily ballots align with the person you’re called to be.
Define Your Vision
Before casting meaningful votes, you need to know what you’re voting for. Without a clear direction, your choices become random, and the scales can easily tip away from growth.
This isn’t just about imagining a better version of yourself. It’s about reaching into the core of your heart, digging deep, and asking: What moments do I refuse to miss?
Think of the moments that will make your life rich and fulfilling—those moments that, if missed, would cause you to feel the weight of regret. Picture this:
The joy of playing with your grandkids in the backyard, hearing their laughter as you chase them under the sun.
The pride of walking your daughter down the aisle, feeling her hand steady in yours, knowing you’ve been there every step of the way.
A hike up your favorite trail with the love of your life, pausing at the peak to take in both the breathtaking view and each other’s company.
The satisfaction of sitting in the audience as your child or grandchild receives an award, their eyes scanning the crowd for you because they know you always show up.
Or anything you desire to experience in life..
Take a second to sit with those moments you are excited to experience. The thought of these moments is incredibly inspiring—exciting, even. It's easy to feel motivated and energized by what could be.
But sometimes, it’s the stark, painful reality of what you stand to lose that creates the deepest drive for change.
Now, imagine missing those moments. Picture not being able to chase your grandkids in the yard, not hearing their laughter fill the air. Imagine not being there to walk your daughter down the aisle, not holding her hand when she needs you most. Think about the ache of standing on the sidelines while your child or grandchild achieves something monumental—and you’re not there to see it. The weight of that missed moment—the guilt, the regret. What does it feel like to know you could’ve been there, but chose comfort, distraction, or avoidance instead?
I know this may sound blunt. I know it might upset some of you to read this, but I say it because you deserve to face this truth. To ignore these realities would be a disservice to you, and it comes from a place of care. You deserve to experience it all—the joy, the pride, the deep connection.
The thought of missing those moments is crushing. It isn’t just a missed experience—it’s the realization that you weren’t who you needed to be in that moment. The emptiness it leaves is a painful reminder of the importance of now—the choices you make today, the votes you cast in this moment.
This is why casting your votes for growth is urgent. It’s not just about what you want to gain; it’s also about what you can’t afford to lose. Your future self is relying on the choices you make today.
Start Small and Stay Consistent
Massive, overnight changes are rare. True transformation is the result of small, consistent actions repeated over time. Every tiny vote matters.
Here’s the secret: Start with changes that feel almost effortless. The beauty of small steps is that they don’t feel overwhelming, making them easier to maintain. You don’t have to change everything all at once. Focus on actions that require little effort but have a lasting impact over time. For example:
Opt for a lunchtime walk rather than browsing the internet.
Drink one extra glass of water today.
Set aside five minutes to read a Psalm or reflect in prayer.
Stretch for five minutes before bed instead of scrolling through your phone.
It may seem like these tiny acts don’t amount to much, but over weeks and months, they start to add up. These seemingly minor choices create a snowball effect that builds momentum and leads to significant, lasting transformation.
Audit Your Voting Patterns
Take time to reflect honestly: Where are most of your votes going right now? Are your choices aligning with your values and goals, or are you simply following habits that have formed over time?
Physical Health: Are you consistently voting for vitality through nutrition and exercise, or is convenience taking over? Are you choosing a balanced meal or opting for takeout more often than not?
Spiritual Growth: Are you casting votes for connection with God through prayer, Scripture, and worship, or are distractions consuming those precious moments?
Mental Wellness: Are you nurturing peace and clarity through practices like mindfulness, gratitude, and rest, or are stress and negativity ruling the majority of your thoughts?
By honestly auditing where your votes are going, you build self-awareness. And from this place, you can begin to identify unhelpful patterns and intentionally shift your choices to create the change you want to see.
Course-Correct Without Guilt
Let’s face it: no one casts perfect votes all the time. You might slip up—indulge in unhealthy meals for weeks, neglect prayer, or let life’s chaos take over. It’s easy to let guilt creep in, making you feel like it’s too late to start over or even try.
But here’s the truth: your next vote matters more than your last one.
It’s not about one decision or one moment; transformation is built through consistency. The key is getting back on track after a misstep. When you cast a vote you regret, forgive yourself and focus on the next opportunity.
Invite God Into the Process
Life’s decisions don’t have to be made alone. God is always ready to guide us, offering clarity and strength for every choice. Isaiah 30:21 promises:
"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’" – Isaiah 30:21
He’s not only there for the “big” decisions but for every choice, big and small. By inviting God into our daily decisions, we gain wisdom that aligns us with His purpose. Even simple choices—whether it's taking time to pray or choosing a healthy meal—become meaningful when we seek His guidance. With Him, we can confidently walk in the path He has for us, knowing each step is in alignment with His will.
You Hold The Pen.
The most remarkable thing about the ballot of life is that it’s never too late to change the outcome. Even if stagnation has won for years, you can start tipping the scales toward growth today—choice by choice, vote by vote.
The ballot is always in front of you, and you hold the pen. Choices aren’t isolated events—they’re votes in a lifelong election that determines your future.
When you choose growth—even in small, seemingly insignificant ways—you build momentum for a life of purpose, health, and spiritual depth.
So today, decide: Who are you voting for?
